Four Sutherland Shire councillors’ corruption claims sent to ICAC

ALLEGATIONS of corruption against four Sutherland Shire councillors have been referred to the ICAC only months after the Wollongong sex-for-development scandal and a few weeks before local government elections.

The Liberal councillors have been accused of approving developments for local Liberal Party members and political donors.

The Daily Telegraph has confirmed that Local Government Minister Paul Lynch has referred the matter to ICAC following anonymous complaints against a group of councillors about dodgy development approvals and questionable political donations.

In the wake of the allegations, first raised in May, the Liberal Party has declared it will not endorse any candidates for Sutherland Shire.

Liberal councillors will have to recontest the election as independents.

The claims, in a letter circulated by a disgruntled local Liberal Party branch member, were referred to Mr Sartor’s office.

In deserting it’s own candidates, the Liberal party has in a sense disenfranchised Liberal voters in the Sutherland Shire. Once again it demonstrates how the Establishment parties cannot be trusted with your vote. Since it looks like you’ll be voting for independents this election, vote for one who’ll uphold the democratic principles of our nation, vote 1 Darrin Hodges.
