A new “grass roots” political party has sprung up, calling itself “Community First“, who claim to be a collection of “independent, like minded candidates” but in reality appear to be nothing but a faux grass-roots or astro-turf party, an instrument of the Liberal party. Most of the Shire members contesting the upcoming council elections are ex-Liberal party members.

In the Shire, it is alleged that Shire Watch are merely Labor sock-puppets. With this new Liberal “astro-turf” effort, there appears to be a growing trend by the Establishment to generate these community orientated parties in an effort to syphon off votes from the true independents.
