Baulkham Hills Shire councillor Martin Tolar, seeking re-election next month, sent the self-lauding email to a local resident, with the instruction: “Can you please do a cut and paste, so there is no email trail back to me.”
He also helpfully provided email addresses for local newspapers, so the paean of praise could be distributed to journalists.
Councillor Tolar suggested the email should include the phrase: “I thought I would take this opportunity to publicly thank Councillor Martin Tolar.”
He also wrote: “While a number of other councillors talk about holding office to help our community, I can honestly say I have found that only Councillor Tolar was prepared to do more than pay lip service to this notion.
“I hope Councillor Tolar is returned to office.”
The plan was derailed when Councillor Tolar inadvertently copied the email to local newspapers.
