Camden shire council to push Multiculturalist propaganda

June 29th, 2008

Despite loud and clear objections from the residents of Camden of an Islamic school, the Camden council will push on with the multiculturalist agenda, wasting ratepayers money on programs that they simply do not want:

CAMDEN Council will set up an advisory group to build community cohesion and reduce intolerance.

At last night’s meeting, councillors voted unanimously to establish the Cohesive Communities Advisory Group.

Expressions of interest will now be sought from residents and organisations who want to be part of the advisory group.

It is expected the group would include representatives from residents’ groups, the council, service clubs, the Country Women’s Association, Camden Historical Society, sporting groups and chambers of commerce.

A report to councillors said “additional focus” was needed to help create harmonious communities where new residents would feel welcome and existing residents would be supported through a period of significant change that would come with Camden’s planned population increase over the next 20 years.

[...]
The advisory group would work in partnership with the council to develop and comment on strategies to build positive and sustainable relationships in the community; reduce intolerance, and recognise and support cultural diversity.

The council should be listening to the needs of the community, not instituting propaganda campaigns to assist in the destruction of that community.  I can guarantee that if elected, I would not be voting in favour of such nonsense in the Sutherland shire.

Labor preselection candidate thrown under the bus.

June 26th, 2008

Reported in today’s ( 25/07/08) Leader -

A MEMBER of the Labor Party has lost the chance to run in this weekend’s Sutherland Shire Council preselections after a car containing branch records was stolen.

Stephen Jones of Grays Point was hoping to win preselection for A Ward but failed in his attempts after branch records were stolen, along with a car belonging to Cronulla branch secretary Dave McKinley.

The documents include attendance books that were required to verify party records of the six members of the Labor Party’s Cronulla branch who had backed Mr Jones’s nomination.

On June 6, Labor councillor Scott Docherty, who has served C Ward since 1999, announced he would switch to A Ward, after former federal Labor candidate Mark Buttigieg sought preselection in C Ward.

The former Labor federal candidate decides to go for preselection in “C” ward, the current “C” ward incumbent then “decides” to switch to “A” ward. The only fly-in-the-ointment is the impending nomination of Jones for “A” ward.  All is resolved however when the vehicle containing the important membership bonafides of Jones’ nominators mysteriously gets stolen. I think most people with an I.Q above room temperature can see what is going on here.

Sutherland Shire council goes into pork-barreling mode.

June 24th, 2008

SUTHERLAND Shire Councillors passed the 2008-09 budget on Monday night with only minor changes from the draft document that went to the council a month ago.

Councillors voted nine to five in favour of the budget, with the major bone of contention being internal and external borrowings totalling about $8 million.

Mayor David Redmond said in his mayoral minute that councillors had a month to put forward suggested changes to the draft budget.

[...]

Councillor Kent Johns said borrowing to fund the capital works program was simply a tool to allow councillors to “build monuments to themselves”.

“This is a bad budget,” Cr Johns said.

“It means we can have a lot of announcements this year before the election in September and then not be able to afford to do anything for the next five years.

“I can see a massive rate increase in the first year of the new council to cover this incompetent budget.”

Council finally removes stupid planning restriction on solar

June 24th, 2008

SUTHERLAND Shire Council has been given a green thumbs-up by the Sutherland Climate Action Network for lifting planning restrictions on solar electric panels and solar hot water systems.

[...]

Convener Jonathan Doig said the network had taken the council to task over two of the old conditions.

Mr Doig said the network had been pleased solar panels were included as complying development, but the plan had stipulated they must not be visible and they must complement the colour of roofing materials.

“Those conditions made the fact solar panels were included as complying development virtually meaningless,” he said.

“Solar panels, by their very nature, are going to be visible and they don’t come in terracotta.”

After approaches from the network, the council agreed, and removed the conditions, meaning residents no longer need a development application to power their homes with green electricity.

St George and Sutherland Shire Leader

I’d like to know what idiots voted for the original proposal? At least now however they have removed the stupidity and this will encourage Shire residents to install solar units.  The  other obstacle to solar power is cost.  To have a solar array large enough to power your house, it costs tens of thousands of dollars - a big disincentive.

Sydney Tramway Museum

June 24th, 2008

For a century, trams were an important part of everyday life in Sydney, taking people to work, school, the beaches, the footy and cricket, the races, the “pictures” and even the Royal Easter Show. Wouldn’t it be great to wind back the clock to the days when a fleet of 1,400 trams – more than twice as many as Melbourne has today – ran along 180 miles (about 290km) of routes?

Sydney Trams

The Sydney Tramway Museum provides a nostalgic and educational insight into the lifestyle of Sydneysiders during the 100 year period of tramway operation from 1861 to 1961, with running and restoration works-in-progress, exhibits and photos depicting the development and operation of tramways during this period.

Sydney Trams

The museum is located within the Sutherland Shire in southern Sydney and is adjacent to Loftus Railway Station. The Museum’s trams operate over three and half a kilometres of its own tram routes.

After a journey starting at Sydney’s historic Railway Square Waiting Shed, unpack your hamper in our Lakewood picnic area. Two electric barbecues are available for use here.

Stroll through the Museum’s collections and learn the important role played by trams in the development of Sydney in the early decades of the twentieth century. Learn about the Museum’s history — even find out how you can provide support!
